When I was getting out of high school, I knew I didn’t want to be stuck working for someone else doing something that doesn’t make me happy for my entire life. I set out to do the things that I loved and was passionate about to earn money. For more than 27 years, I’ve been making extra cash doing what I love, and have done it full time for more than 13 years. What Do You Love?
The way you spend your spare time when you aren’t working could actually hold the secrets to a new career. At the very least, the various activities and hobbies that you enjoy in your life could be used to make a second income with a side hustle business.
Most people spend their lives doing work to make others rich. Even worse, they usually don’t enjoy it at all, but they continue to do it year after year because it pays the bills. There is more to life than just working a job. You can actually spend your time doing what you love to do and make money at the same time.
Just imagine if you could call your boss and tell him “I QUIT”! Then you spend your days on the hobbies and activities that you love the most. It’s almost like being on permanent vacation and never truly feels like work when you really enjoy it.
Passion Side Hustles
Your passions can be excellent side hustle incomes for a number of reasons. First, it often takes extra determination and work to get started with a side hustle, especially for an online business. When you would do the same thing without getting paid, it makes it much easier to push through that initial stage where you may have to work without getting paid for it. Most people that start a side hustle give up because they’re simply not interested in their business and only doing it for money.
In addition to that, you have another powerful tool for success when you utilize your life’s passions. I’m talking about knowledge. When you really get excited about a new subject or project that you’re doing with your hobby, you’re a lot more likely to seek out more knowledge so you can learn more about your hobbies. Over time, you can really build up a lot of experience and first-hand tips that you can share with others.
A lot of online side hustles will involve content creation, which could be writing articles, talking on a podcast, creating pictures, or even making videos. The best content is either the most helpful and/or the most entertaining. By creating content that relates to the things you love, you’re much more likely to be able to provide excellent information that others can use. Sell Your Favorite Products
One potential side hustle business that you can do that relates to your hobbies is to sell products. This is often easiest to do online. You can set up your own e-commerce website, or you can sell products through various online marketplaces like Etsy, Ebay or Amazon.
Almost all passions and relating activities involve the use of things that you have to buy. Hobbies can actually be downright expensive sometimes. Instead of spending your hard-earned money from work to buy those things, you can actually make money by selling them to others. Some people even use this strategy to pay for an expensive hobby.
The main downside to this type of business is that you will need some money to get started. To be able to sell products, you have to buy them first. This is best done wholesale and often in bulk, so you have to have cash upfront to get your initial inventory to sell. You must also take time to package and ship products to customers when you make a sale, and this process can be quite time consuming when you do it full-time.
Write or Talk About Passions
You could probably talk to someone for hours or even days about your favorite activities and the things you love. You can get paid to do this by creating your own content. This content can be in a wide variety of formats including writing articles, talking on a podcast, creating images or recording videos.
Like e-commerce, you can use content that you create in numerous ways. Creating your own website is one option, and it is a personal favorite of mine. You can also have pages on a variety of social media sites, especially if you want to make videos. Personally, if I use social media for a business then I also like to make a website for it too.
Set some type of daily or weekly content creation goal for yourself. Make a list of many different topics about your hobbies that you could talk about. Refer to this list each day and work your way through it. Keep in mind that you may need to publish content for months or possibly even a year or more before you really begin to get a lot of attention for it.
Make Money From Your Passions
If you want to create content, you don’t get paid directly for it like you would selling e-commerce products. However, you can still make money in numerous different ways. The easiest method is to simply put advertisements with your content. Google Ads is one of the best options for this approach, since it gives high pay and usually has ads to serve for most niches. It can take a lot of followers and website visitors to earn a decent income with ads though. As an example, a YouTube channel will make roughly $4 per 1000 video views. If you wanted to make a full-time income on YouTube, you’d need about a million video views each month to make $4,000.
Another option is affiliate ads. Google ads pay you for clicks and sometimes for views, but you don’t have to send them traffic that buys anything. As an affiliate, you promote products for other companies and only get paid when you refer a sale. You’ll make a percentage of the sale price as your commission. Amazon has an affiliate program that gives you access to a wide variety of products to sell. However, Amazon can also be a big headache to get approved and to continue to stay in their good graces long-time.
A final option is to make and sell your own products. One of the easiest ways to do this is to make digital products. You can probably teach really useful things to others that are involves in your hobby. Some of this information may be so good that others would be willing to pay for it. By making an informational e-book and/or video course, you can sell this training to your website visitors and social media followers.
